Filing a Complaint
Please read the following carefully before filing your complaint:
*Always contact the seller or service provider directly to resolve an issue before filing a complaint with the JEA.
The JEA does not charge a filing or review fee in order to submit a complaint. You do not need to be a JEA member to file a complaint nor does the business you are filing against. Once you submit your complaint, we will review your complaint and contact you with our findings within 10 business days. You will be notified by email if we find you do not have a valid complaint.
Do not file a complaint for any of the following:
- You made a purchase that later went on sale or had a permanent reduction in price.
- You made a purchase and found it at a lower price elsewhere.
- You changed your mind and can't return it.
- You can't afford the purchase you made and can't return it.
In some cases, a jeweler you have a long standing relationship with will make exceptions. Contact them directly. Always ask about the return policy before you make a purchase.
If we find that you have a valid complaint you will need to sign the form below and mail or fax it along with your supporting documents. Details will be provided to you via email and/or phone. If you choose to have the JEA pursue your complaint, your complaint will be posted on our website, along with the results, the name of the company or individual you are filing against, your first name and last initial, and the city and state in which you are located.
JEA charges $100.00 to members to pursue a complaint and $125.00 to non-members. This fee will include, but is not limited to:
- Having your item tested and/or appraised by an independent lab.
- Phone calls, faxes and letters sent to you and the company you are filing against.
If we are unable to get satisfactory resolution for you, and legal action is recommended, we may refer you to a mediator specializing in the jewelry industry. Any mediation costs are not included in the minimal fee charged by us to pursue and post your complaint.
As always, do your due diligence before you shop. Help protect yourself by reading our education section before making a purchase. Know your seller; Jewelers, Appraisers, Gemologists, Lapidaries and Online Retailers in our member listing and displaying the JEA logo have agreed to the highest ethical standards and fair business practices.
